AS YOU MAY or may not know, the Sundance Film Festival is in full swing with celebrities flocking to Park City to show off their wares.

Among the celebrities with a new project to promote? Daniel Radcliffe.

Radcliffe’s latest film, Swiss Army Man, premiered last night and it’s already causing quite a stir. Why, you ask? Because it’s about a farting corpse.

Headline of the year, tbh. Variety Variety

Yep.

Swiss Army Man stars Paul Dano as a man trapped on a desert island who befriends a farting corpse, played by Daniel Radcliffe.

And people were having none of it.

Per Variety:

But the bizarre fable about a lost man (Dano) who befriends a farting corpse (Radcliffe) could win the festival’s award for the most walk-outs, as a continuous stream of audience members kept standing up and bolting for the door throughout the film.

It seems a lot of people didn’t know what to make of it.

So how much farting is in the movie? According to The Guardian, a lot.

I could never prep you enough for the degree to which farting plays a pivotal role in Swiss Army Man. In addition to its plot contrivance (it’s the gas that keeps these lost men on their voyage) the taboo of passing wind (as well as masturbation) becomes the central metaphor for the need to be true to oneself.

(For the record, The Guardian awarded it three stars and wrote that it was “coarse” and “stupid” but also “a little bit moving”.)

Though there were some walkouts, the film also has its fans.
